Meet The Oban Team
Brendan McCarron (Senior Site Manager)
Brendan McCarron jetted in from New York to take up his post as Senior Site Manager at Oban in July 2009. He arrived just in time to welcome our guests visiting the distillery on the Classic Malts Cruise. Prior to this Brendan was working in Procurement in the States as part of his Graduate Training. He is a Chemical Engineer and worked with the team responsible for building Roseisle distillery . At only 29 years of age he is the youngest distillery manager in Diageo !
Hamish Bunker (Site Operations Manager)
Hamish joined the team from Glen Ord distillery where he worked as a Site Operations Manager. Previous to this he was busy making malt at Burghead and Roseisle maltings. His main interests include golf and hill-walking and he has just returned from a golfing holiday in Myrtle Beach, USA.
Stuart Campbell (Process Operator)
Prior to joining us Stuart worked as a car mechanic. He started work at Oban Distillery in 1984 and spent 5 years working in the distillery before emigrating to Guelph in Canada, where he worked for Sleemans Brewery. His family missed Scotland so much that he returned to Oban and rejoined the distillery in 1989. He has just become a proud grandfather for the first time and Stuarts’ family also run a local B&B called Raniven on Breadalbane Street.
Ralph McLeary (Process Operator)
Ralph joined Oban Distillery in 1989 and became senior warehouse operator the following year. After a short spell working in our distillery visitor centre he became a distillery operator in 1991. Ralph enjoys exercising and has completed both the London and Leeds Marathon. He has won various cycling races and the Oban Half Marathon. In his spare time Ralph works as a tour guide on the Hebridean Princess.
Scott Jordan (Process Operator)
Scott is our newest operator joining the production team on 1st April 2007.He joined Oban Distillery in 2003 as a Brand Home Lead Guide, and also spent 6 months undertaking a secondment as Oban Distillery Brand Home Manager. Scott previously worked as a Transport Manager and in the hospitality industry. Scott has two young boys and enjoys a round of golf in his spare time.
Teddy MacLean (Process Operator)
Teddy MacLean (junior) joined Oban Distillery in 1984, working in the warehouse before becoming an operator. His late father Teddy MacLean Senior worked at the distillery before him and retired in 1991 after 37 years service. Teddy loves to fish and travels all over the North of Scotland trout fishing.
Gordon Wood (Process Operator)
Gordon Wood started with the Company in 1994 as an apprentice Coppersmith. After completing his apprenticeship he moved to Port Dundas Grain Distillery to take up a role as a maintenance fitter. He joined Oban Distillery production team in 2005. Gordon enjoys outdoor country pursuits; shooting and fishing. He is currently training his Springer Spaniel Blake and enjoys going to music festivals. Gordon recently became the proud father of Olivia who was born in November 07.
Willie MacDougall (Process Operator)
Willie MacDougall joined Oban distillery as a Senior Warehouse operator back in 1989 and in 1990 Willie moved over to the production side. He is one of our site’s Malt Distilling Partnership reps and travels to meetings in Speyside to represent Oban Distillery. In his spare time Willie enjoys a round of golf and plays off a 12 handicap.
Paul Cummins (Process Operator)
Paul originally comes from Kirkby near Liverpool. He moved to Oban back in 1981 to work at the Great Western Hotel. After a couple of years he met his wife Gemma and they decided to set up home in Oban. In 1986 Paul became a warehouseman at the distillery before moving to production in 1995. Paul enjoys keeping fit and is a regular in the gym at our local leisure centre.
