Bell's 2007 Christmas Decanter

We are delighted to bring you the third Decanter in the series of 4 Christmas Decanters. This series will be based around a number of little known, dramatic stories about human beings in which a bell plays a comparatively minor but essentially influential role.   The third in the series is called “Five Queens”. The Decanter produced by Wade Ceramics will be cream in colour and is the traditional bell shape.

The third in the series depicts Sir Miles Partridge, a notorious gamester, who was one day playing poker dice with King Henry VIII. The tension mounted. Suddenly, Sir Miles offered to stake-on one throw £100 against the King’s stake of the whole of the clochier containing the four celebrated ‘Jesus Bells’ (which at that time stood on the north side of St. Paul’s Churchyard, close by St. Paul’s School, in London). The imperious and impetuous King at once accepted the bet and lost. Sir Miles had the bells melted down and the metal sold. But the proceeds did him little good. Some time later, in 1552, he was convicted of felony and hanged on Tower Hill. Meanwhile, King Henry had rung the changes on four more wives.

We also have a small stock of the following decanters still available:-

Christmas Decanter 2000, Christmas Decanter 2001, Christmas Decanter 2002, Christmas Decanter 2004, Christmas Decanter 2006, Queen's 75th Birthday Decanter
